Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Lift Every Voice

Monday, Jan. 18
Luther Seminary
St. Paul, Minn.

Please join us at Luther Seminary on Monday, Jan. 18, as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will reflect on the significance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s influence, as well as ways in which we can learn from and live out his legacy. This year’s theme will be Lift Every Voice.

We are living in an incredibly volatile time. Hostility and violence are becoming the norm. Racial tension and systemic injustice surround us How do we lift every voice in a time of such tension? As Christian public leaders, we are called to be a light in the darkness, hope in the fear and witnesses to the gospel in all that we do.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2016, we will gather as a community to wrestle with these questions and find ways to act.

Joining us will be Nekima Levy-Pounds, an award-winning professor of law at the University of St. Thomas School of Law and the founding director of the Community Justice Project, a civil rights legal clinic. Nekima is also a civil rights attorney, legal scholar, media personality, blogger and nationally recognized expert on issues at the intersections of race, public policy, economic justice, public education, juvenile justice and the criminal justice system. In 2015, she was named one of 40 under 40 by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.  In 2014, she was named a Minnesota Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer and recognized as one of 50 under 50 Most Influential Law Professors of Color in the Country by Lawyers of Color magazine. She has a heart for the people and works toward achieving justice for those whose voices are often unheard within society.

We hope you will join us for this event! It is free and open to the public. No RSVP is required. Find maps and directions to Luther Seminary.
