Ghosts of Amistad

This new documentary follows historians Marcus Reidiker (author of the Amistad Rebellion: An Atlantic Odyssey of Slavery and Freedom) as he journeys to Sierra Leone in search of local memories of the 1839 shipboard revolt which gripped the United States, the film uses the knowledge of villagers, fishermen, and truck drivers to recover a lost history from below in the struggle against slavery. Join us not only to view this award-winning film, but also to engage in a conversation about the implications of its story for how we remember and tell our stories.
