The Minnesota Department of Commerce is seeking community applicants for the Minnesota Auto Theft Prevention Board (MATPB). The MATPB advises the Commerce Commissioner on how best to distribute grant funds to county attorney offices, law enforcement agencies, neighborhood and community organizations or businesses for the prevention of auto thefts. The Commissioner of Commerce, in consultation with the Commissioner of Revenue, develops criteria for the fair distribution of grant money.  The funds are intended to provide financial support to reduce incidents, provide equipment and programs to reduce incidents of auto theft, and provide techniques and educate people about the common methods of auto theft and how best to avoid auto theft. The board consists of members of the auto insurers, law enforcement, prosecuting agencies and public representatives.

The current opening should be filled by a public representative.

This board:

·         develops and sponsors the implementation of statewide plans and strategies to combat auto theft;

·         improves auto theft laws;

·         provides a forum for identification of critical problems for persons dealing with auto theft;

·         coordinates the development, adoption and implementation of plans, programs and strategies for interagency cooperation related to auto theft enforcement and audits those plans and programs;

·         assesses the scope and analyzes methods to combat auto theft and car hijacking.

An ideal candidate for the current opening is someone who is:

·         active in community engagement;

·         engaged in public safety conversations with community members;

·         invested in improving safety in Minnesota neighborhoods.
