In light of the uncertainty and apprehension following the November election, East Side community members are planning an Intercultural Interfaith Community Meal to take place on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Battle Creek Middle School.

The idea was originated by a member of the East African Community Association. On the night of the election, he was putting his children to bed and his youngest burst into tears. As he comforted her, he asked why she cried. She replied that she was afraid her family would be sent away. This experience led him to take action on behalf of his and our East Side children.

“This annual interfaith and intercultural communities meeting will be an all-ages event to address the unrest and apprehension our communities are facing. To respond to the needs of our communities, our elected officials and community leaders will meet to respond to the questions surrounding the uncertain days ahead. ”

Through this dinner, we want to begin the really important work of dispelling children’s and families’ fears by with broad neighborhood support and reassurance.
