Greetings from Walk the
Bluff
Thank
you for being
a part of Walk the Bluff this past year.
As the
weather grows colder, the
days shorter and darker we need to get outside and exercise even
more. Our community service and volunteerism is greatly
appreciated and needed this time of year.
Walking as community
service
There
are walkers who are seeking partners so please remember that
walking as community service. Our newest walker is
a recently retired
gentleman whose wife has a day job. He would like to find
someone
who could help him gain greater fitness and drop some weight.
He
lives at 12XX Margaret and would drive to meet people on the
bluff. He also has been winter mall walking and invites
others to
join in. He likes to walk about 8 a.m. Let me know
if this
works for you!
Mall Walking
Carpooling
to the
mall - let's connect! Call your friends or me and
we'll set this up. Metro State
is also open for
walking. Security says just to check in at the library desk
in
the library if you want - nothing to sign - just to let them
know. There are the tunnels and stairs in the Main
Hall.
Remember parking at the library is for only an hour. Entry is
possible through the main hall also.
Maps
and Tours
If
you want a packet of
walk-maps and tour-maps of Dayton's Bluff please call or go to our Walking Tour
link. You can get some ideas of what the walks and
maps are
like on the Walk the Bluff link.
Community
Gardens
Plans
are being made.
Those interested in community gardening can give a call to Karin or
John Barbie of the DBCC GreenSpace Committee at 772-2075.
Snow-Free
Walking
Remember
Snow-Free Walking
this winter. If you have frail elders they can get free
shoveling
done others on a sliding fee. Please talk to your neighbors
about
the importance of shoveling our public sidewalks. They our
bridge
from home to Dayton's Bluff. If homeowners do not
take
responsibility then please report those addresses to the city of St.
Paul by e-mail/on the web - use the department link to DSI
or phone 266-8989. Recording information will help
ensure
that there is accountability. This
Snow-Free project
through the Dayton's Bluff Community Council and the Margaret
Block Club will help when requested so call 772-2075
or email Karin@DaytonsBluff.org.
Be
prepared -
more snow coming soon!
Snowy neighborhood sidewalks need to be taken
care
of. The city code gives the homeowner 24 hours to remove any
accumulation of snow or ice from their public walks including the
corners.
It's
shoveling
time! Who needs help?
Now is the time to get out in your
neighborhood and
find out who needs shoveling assistance. We (Walk the Bluff) have a
list of people who have requested assistance. If you can shovel, blow
or plow or if you can recommend anyone to do snow removal please
forward their contact information to us at the Dayton's Bluff Community
Council. Frail elders have only to request help for services.
Those people with physical disabilities need to find assistance and its
not coming from the city. Let us know if you or a group you know of is
willing to help. Walk the Bluff has donated $900 to pay for such needs.
Please call 772-2075.
Dayton's
Bluff Good Neighbor Code Violation Notice
There is a "Dayton's Bluff Good
Neighbor Code
Violation Notice" that is available from the office to alert those with
unshoveled walks if you want to help motivate them. The City uses work
orders and charges $140 per hour to shovel, salt and sand. We have a
list of local people who shovel, snow-blow, plow alleys and corners as
well as all types of personal property.
Be the bridge from personal responsibility to
civic
engagement. So many people stuggle with winter
travel. Make
the difference and be involved as a part of the answer.
Communicate, participate and create solutions.

Looking
forward to
Happy Trails!
