Why Should I Join a Block Club?

Block Clubs are the most effective way to reduce crime and build relationships in the community. Block Clubs can have incredible success in reducing crime, getting neighbors acquainted with each other, accomplishing work on community projects, and even help children with their homework.

Each Block Club can define their own mission and goals. Some Block Clubs want to stick with working on Neighborhood Watch and crime related issues. Others work solely on safety issues, while still others work on neighborhood improvements and community building. Neighbors who are organized and work together for positive change can best address neighborhood problems.

When you are a member of a block club:
  • You can meet and discuss issues with your neighbors.
  • Meet and welcome new neighbors to your community.
  • Network with other Block Clubs.
  • Work together on improving the quality of life.
  • Keep up to date on community issues.
  • Monitor neighborhood problems.

Studies prove knowing your neighbors = less crime
Studies have found that Block Clubs and neighbors knowing each other are the most effective crime prevention strategies.
Some people call their group a neighborhood watch, block club, or neighbors just getting together.  A close-knit community has less crime.  Here are some of the ways the Dayton’s Bluff Community Council can help your group:
  • Provide information on crime prevention and community issues
  • get a police officer to attend your meeting,
  • help schedule a speaker
  • create and/or copy your meeting notices
  • schedule your meeting at our office (798 East 7th Street)
  • get copies of weekly Incidents Report to help you better track problems in your neighborhood
  • Dayton’s Bluff Community Meeting – the 1st Thursday of each month
  • Greening Dayton’s Bluff Program – Community Building and Crime Prevention through greening
  • Walk the Bluff – Crime Prevention through walking groups in the neighborhoods
