Rehabbed by
Upper Swede Hollow Neighborhoods Association (USHNA)

This three-story duplex was built in 1908 for Winslow W. Dunn, the attorney for the Hamms Brewery. The first floor condo has a kitchen with a pantry, dining room, parlor, bedroom, library/guest bedroom and a full bath. Special features include French doors between the dining room and library; a built in oak buffet in the dining room; hard wood floors; and leaded, beveled and stained glass windows.

The second level has the same basic layout, but the wood is in maple. It contains two bedrooms, a three-season porch and a screen porch. A special bonus is the unfinished third floor.

This duplex was on the Dayton's Bluff Home tour last year at 397 Bates Avenue. The building was purchased and moved last October by USHNA as part of the expansion efforts of Metropolitan State University. Take a moment and backtrack the two-block pathway this giant maneuvered as she paraded to the new site on Bates, past trees and down the steep hill. Our compliments to Semple Home Movers of St. Paul's East Side for this astonishing accomplishment.

636-638 Bates now naturally overlooks Swede Hollow Park like it'd always been there. Future restoration includes a new Victorian period front porch on the first floor similar to the original, three-color paint exterior, updated electrical and plumbing and period light fixtures.

These two condominiums are for sale. For more information, please contact Carol at 651-771-2659.
