| The gathering at the Mounds Theatre was put on by the Portage for Youth and local block clubs. About 200 people attended this event. The Portage for Youth is in the process of securing funding to rehab the theater building for community use. A sidewalk cafe was set up outside of the theater. The Portage for Youth sold food at their food wagon and gave away free popcorn in the theater lobby where there were also games and prizes for the children. Tours were given of the theater building and people learned about this exciting project. Visiting dignitaries included city Councilmember Kathy Lantry, State Representative Steve Trimble, State Senator Randy Kelly and, of course, the Dayton's Bluff Bluffalo. As a special surprise, an announcement was made that the Mounds Theater would soon be home to one of the city's 101 Snoopy statues. A mockup of Thespian Snoopy was displayed. The event lasted until after dark. |
